Dulled – The Alchemist

You encounter a mysterious man offering you a magic potion that, once sipped, will make one of your senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch) super sharp — but dull the others. Will you sip it, and if so, what sense do you choose?

I saw him standing on the road.

A man with such a heavy load.

He stretched his hand to offer me,

a vial labeled “Drink me, I’m for free”

*

I shyly moved to take a look,

remembering an ancient book.

Should I risk a tiny taste,

or flee from him with utmost haste?

*

“I mean no harm”, he said to me,

“I merely wish to set you free.

“One sense is all you really need

and with your other senses freed…”

*

“…that which you think is now your best,

can really be put to the test.

Just drink & choose …

… which one to use”

*

I thought about it for awhile.

He waited with an irksome smile.

I turned & ran, ran far away.

I’d deal with him another day!

    1. I wrote a poem because it was late, I’m writing an article about 70’s music & I just didn’t have time to launch into something longer. I noticed that some people didn’t like this prompt. Maybe it was harder than they thought, but I’ve read some very nice musings. Most people seem to want their senses as they are. Thanks for the like 🙂
