Okay, my mother gave me the name Aileen at birth.
She named me after my aunt Eileen who died of scarlet fever when she was 4.
She chose Aileen instead of Eileen because she was superstitious & didn’t want to risk exactly the same name.
It has always been listed as a gaelic variant of the Greek, Helen meaning light, although these days I see lots of other supposed associations & meanings, which I ignore.
When I google it I just get some mad serial killer who killed seven guys & was executed by lethal injection.
I changed my name to Kana when I was 15 & marrying my first husband.
He changed his name to Karna & was thereafter known as K until he sadly passed away.
I changed my name to Khana, adding the ‘h’ when I married my current husband & I hope never to change it again.
I have several other names that I use solely for spiritual activity but that is another story.

I liked your photo, and your story about your name was very interesting. It raises all kinds of questions… The name you chose is rare in England, to the best of my knowledge. You mention spiritual activity, and I wonder what sort of activity that is…

Hi Shimon, sorry it’s taken me so long to reply but your seemingly simple comment is of course quite complex & your innocent wondering penetrates deeply into my psyche. How to respond meaningfully in this particular environment is not immediately obvious and so I have taken some time.
Briefly I can say that at 12 years old I walked away from the religion of my birth, at 13 I met my first husband & together we embarked on a joint quest for ‘Truth’. At 15, after discovering Kabala, we decided to marry & changed our names in order to liberate ourselves from the religion of our past.
I have never found a religion that I could fully accept since walking away from my original one & so I have remained independent, taking a little truth from here & a little from there, while shedding anything I considered designed to bind, or restrict growth.
My first husband passed away many years ago & after almost a decade & a half alone I was directed by ‘unknown forces’ to accept my current husband & to come & live with him in Israel. I would be very happy to discuss my explorations & experiences in more detail by email but that’s probably enough for here.

Not at all. Your comment was delightful. I just didn’t feel I could do it justice in this particular environment. I share many things here, but my spiritual life I reserve for those people I feel are genuinely interested.
