Have you watched or plan to watch any of the 2014 Winter Olympics?

I don’t have a TV, so no.

What is your favorite winter Olympic event? Would you ever want to be an expert in that sport?

My favourite event in the overall Olympics is the running of the Olympic torch from it’s initial lighting in Greece to it’s final destination in the host country.

I don’t know much about winter sports but here are a few of my favourite gems from the ‘Olympic Scriptures’ lol …

The Olympic Motto is Latin – Citius, Altius, Fortius.

It means –  “Faster, Higher, Stronger”.

It was coined by Henri Didon in 1891 & was suggested as the Olympic Motto by Pierre de Coubertin at the creation of the IOC in 1894 it became the official motto in 1924.

An excerpt from the Olympic Creed:

The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.

Have you ever met an Olympic Athlete?

I knew a girl at school that was training for the Olympic swimming team but I don’t know if she ever made it, & my friends son was expected to compete in the Olympics after his appearance in the World Championships but injured his hamstrings while training & didn’t make it.

I did see Paula Radcliffe running in the London Marathon & got close enough to take a pic, albeit a little blurred. (See above).

Do you have a favorite athlete? Name sport.

I really enjoy watching the athletics when a TV is available & have definite soft spot for Usain Bolt & past long distance champion Haile Gebrselassie

What is your favorite exercise or sport? Is there a reason why?

My mother introduced me to yoga when I was 4 or 5 & I immediately fell in love with it. It was 10 years or so before I started to do it seriously & have continued to practice on & off ever since. I’ve always wanted to do Tai Chi as well but other than a few lessons I’ve never found a class that fits my schedule.

I love water & swimming, whether it be in the sea, mountain pools, lakes, rivers or just plain old municipal pools. I used to go skinny-dipping in ice-cold mountain pools, in North Wales, in my younger days. These days I mostly stick to the luxuriously warm Mediterranean Sea. I must be going soft in my old age lol.

  1. Since my state (Minnesota) has athletes in almost every sport, especially hockey, I sure am following this Olympics! Excited for the women’s hockey game tomorrow. We know how to play in the snow and ice here in Minnesota–although I am content to wrap myself up in blankets, make hot cocoa, and cocoon in front of the TV. 😱
