Images, Weekly Photo ChallengeWeekly Photo Challenge: Monument This monument marks The Acre Prison Break in, what was then, the British Mandate of Palestine On April 19, 1947, four members of a Jewish underground group called “Irgun”, who had been captured by the British, were hanged in Acre Prison. The Acre Prison Break Monument – Detail On May 4, 1947, the Irgun broke through the walls of Acre Prison & freed 28 members of their group & another group. 214 Arab prisoners also escaped. The Acre Prison Break Monument Five of those involved were captured. Three were hanged, & two minors were given life sentences. In response to the executions two British sergeants, who had been taken hostage, were killed.
