I never thought of assigning numerical values to letters. That is very unique!
Was that a little factoid you had tucked away in the back of your head? Or did you pour over a list of words trying to find one to total 26?

Gematria is one of my pet obsessions & so I’m often found adding up words to see what their values are.
I did know about the value of this word, it’s quite an important one for obvious reasons, but I wasn’t actually thinking of it when I started on the prompt.
I reached for one of my books on gematria to see what was listed under 26 & lo & behold there it was.
Given the title of the prompt it made for quite an ominous post lol 🙂

Yeah of course. It’s an ancient tradition in Judaism & has been adopted by many mystics & esoteric schools. It is believed that words with the same numerical value are somehow connected & this has lead to some numbers having great spiritual significance.
Maybe I should write a more detailed post on the subject 🙂

Would the same thing apply to English? This truly is a new thing for me.

Yes people do this with English, but there is a lot of debate about the values of the letters. Being a relatively modern practice, there are no ancient sources to consult, so letters are generally given values from 1 to 9 in order & the numbers are just repeated until the letters are used up, but it doesn’t really work out exactly & generally people tend to try & convert English words to Hebrew letters & do it that way. I’m seriously considering a post that explains it all in the near future, so I’ll let you know when I finally get it together lol 🙂
