Four Stars: A Celebration of Life

Write a review of your life — or the life of someone close to you — as if it were a movie or a book.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us LIFE.

A Celebration of Life – 1

Khana gave birth to her son on the 12th of June, 1982 – almost exactly 31 years ago.

He was her second child & his father delivered him at home, with the supervision of a midwife.

They wanted to do everything naturally, & as she & her baby were healthy & free of complications, the midwife agreed to let them do things their own way & allow nature to take it’s course.

The labor proceeded without drugs of any kind & Khana delivered her son in a squatting position,  supported by the midwife on one side & her sister, fresh off the plane from Australia, on the other.

Many friends came to watch, help & share the experience, & her son was delivered to the sound of ‘The Doors’, singing ‘Break on Through to the Other Side’.

As agreed the baby was put straight to the breast, without the cord being cut, so that the natural hormones released by breastfeeding could do their work in helping to expel the placenta.

Dad finished the performance by cutting the cord & bathing baby.

It was definitely a four star performance, in fact I’d give it five.

For My Son …

“Hi, my love, you’re here at last.

After nine months wait you came so fast.

Here, take my breast & have your fill.

Though still attached, such strength of will.

You know exactly how to feed

& satisfy your urgent need.

Your little lips, so strong, so tight.

Your little fingers, touch – so light,

& while I stroke your fresh black hair

your tiny toes curl in the air.

How can I describe the joy

to have met, at last, my little boy.
