What’s your favorite part about visiting a new place — the food? The architecture? The people watching?
Photographers, artists, poets: show us NEW.
Forget the travel stuff.
Stranger in a Strange Land is one of my all time favourite novels.
If you haven’t read it yet you really should.
Here’s a very brief introduction to the plot.
Valentine Michael Smith is born on Mars.
His parents are part of a pioneering expedition to the planet but die when he is very young.
He is raised by the vastly superior Martians , who have mastered the physical world using their minds.
He is found & returned to Earth by a second expedition when he is about 20 years old.
Kept within the confines of a hospital for some time while he adjusts to Earths gravity & atmosphere, he becomes something of a political & cultural curiosity.
While there he befriends Gillian & they bond over a glass of water, a sacred ceremony for Martians.
Gillian is the first woman he has ever seen.
He is incredibly wealthy after inheriting vast fortunes from the original crew including his parents.
Many see him as a potential puppet for their own ends, especially as he appears somewhat childlike.
He soon discovers that due to his upbringing he has special powers that he uses instinctively to avoid ‘wrongness’.
Michael, as he likes to be called, sets out to right all the wrongs of the world & the rest you should really read yourselves.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. There are plenty of second hand copies floating around the net, so it doesn’t even need to cost much 🙂

After reading the book, I used the term grokked in a poem. Great book.
