Share Your World – 2014 Week 17

Here are my somewhat late answers to this weeks questions …

What are some words that just make you smile?

Boobs, Buttocks, Cardinal Fang, Venezuelan Beaver’s Cheese, Babushka, Shindig.

When you lose electricity in a storm, do you light the candles or turn on the flashlight? How many of each do you own?

Generally I reach for the candles

I can’t remember losing the electricity in a storm, but it’s happened to me for other reasons.

1 – Power cuts in the 70’s – Ted Heath decided, along with the 3-day week, to introduce rolling power cuts to restrict energy consumption. I had to do my homework by candle light.

2 – Electricity Meters – I never got used to the shock of all the power going off when the credit ran out on the meter. Living without much ready cash meant that I often had to go without electricity. Candles were a cheap solution.

3 – Living in tents – Permanent lack of electricity. Not to mention other amenities. Candles were an essential part of the survival kit.

4 – Electricity sub-station blowing up – Yes it’s true. There was a huge bang, the whole house moved slightly & all the power went off. We all ran outside to find a huge black cloud descending on the town & thick black smoke coming up out of all the manholes up & down the street. We were without electricity until the next evening, needless to say, we reached for the candles.

We have lots of candles & about 5 flashlights of various colours.

I only use the flashlights for light painting, they are my paintbrushes.

What is the longest book you ever read?

Not counting The Bible, of which I have read most but not all, I think it must be Lord of the Rings.

So you win a pet monkey at a fair, but this isn’t just any old monkey. It can do one trick for you whenever you want from getting a pop out of the fridge to washing your hair. What would be the trick?

It could teach all my classes for me leaving me to immerse myself in my art.

I’m sure the students wouldn’t even notice the difference.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Grateful for …

Having the time to turn my blog into a showcase for my art.

If you haven’t seen the changes now’s your chance.

Just click the ‘Home’ or ‘Galleries’ button at the top of the page.

Looking forward to …

Getting some feedback about my newly arranged blog & getting my poetry page organised & published.

  1. Those are great words!
I remember the power cuts as well. It was all a bit spooky, and my dad was at home more than usual because there wasn’t enough electricity to keep the council offices going all week. Thanks for the memory!
